One of Billboard's Critics took a deep dive on "Sign Of The Times" and here's the result.
Many people have been hearing the former One Direction star Harry Styles' new single "Sign Of The Times" and thought it was a cover, or were having some serious Deja Vu on the sounds - thinking that they'd heard it once before. Well, the reason for that could be the fact that Styles pulled many different feelings into the songs from artists that he loved, and those influences came in really hard in one well rounded, fully encompassed dump.

The main conclusion in the Billboard deep dive was this: the song is a melting pot of all types of British Rock, from David Bowie's "Is There Life On Mars" to Oasis' "Stop Crying Your Heart Out." It's even got a little dash of Coldplay's Chris Martin in there, but either way, the song will stand solid if the rest of the album is just as good.
It's strange, because of the fact that Styles was a boy-bander, he's going to have to prove himself as a true musician to those of the non-teenage Directoner-Mania, but we'd say he's probably going to do just fine without ZAYN and the rest of the crew, but it'll be interesting to see what genre he ends up in.
His former co-hort ZAYN has stayed very pop, and even did a song with Styles' ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift. But by looking at this influence list, he might end up in Alternative Rock rather than pop music.
