Meet Pippi Longstocking!
A grey seal pup was stranded along the Indian River Inlet over the weekend. The National Aquarium Animal Rescue admitted the pup and named her Pippi Longstocking! Preliminary tests and exams reveal that Pippi was dehydrated, malnourished and suffering from a swollen front flipper. Pippi also has some wounds around her neck. She’s receiving fluids, anti-inflammatory meds, and antibiotics. The team estimates that she is about one month old because she still has baby fur (called lanugo). Lanugo typically sheds at about three to four weeks of age. When Pippi Longstocking is fully recovered, she will be released back into the ocean.
